SONNET FOR THIS SEPARATE EARTH

I am my own siamese twin

& live in the broken planet

of my brother’s arms it is soon

his turn to speak he will migrate

from the guts of this separate earth

past the barricade of yellow tape

he will usher me to bed with a flick

of the wrist we share I’ll dream exactly

what he tells me to & he’ll repeat

the lessons I’ve always known his voice

scripture written behind my lips one of us

a parable & the other an interpretation

my brother will choose his role & say

I am my own siamese twin
